NASA Rings Nasdaq Closing Bell after InSight Landing on Mars

NASA Deputy Associate Administrator Melanie Saunders and astronaut Mike Massimino ring the closing bell of Nasdaq after the NASA's InSight lander successfully touched down on the surface of Mars, Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. The lander sent a signal affirming a completed landing sequence at approximately 3 p.m. EST after touching down on the western side of a flat, smooth expanse of lava called Elysium Planitila. InSight, short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, is a Mars lander designed to study the "inner space" of Mars: its crust, mantle and core.
